This annual event held by the Sacandaga Bible Conference (SBC) hosted over 200 community members of all ages to celebrate enjoyment of the outdoors and learn outdoors and wilderness skills. Our team spread the word on sun safety and talked to many people about how to practice sun safety while enjoying the great outdoors.<\/p><p>Many folks asked if sun safety is an issue in the winter, which gave us the chance to educate on this common misconception. <strong><em>Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun can damage your skin in all seasons and temperatures. Reflective surfaces such as snow and ice double your exposure to UV radiation, as the UV rays hit your skin then reflect off the surface and hit it again. <\/em><\/strong>We also provided resources on HPV vaccination and cancer screening paid time off at our table, leading to discussions with multiple people about these important cancer prevention topics.<\/p><p>We had the chance to speak to the SBC\u2019s executive director, David Spencer about Sportsmans Day and about CPiA. \u201cWe enjoy getting our community together for a fun event around our enjoyment of the outdoors&#8230;we are able to learn together how to be better outdoorsmen,\u201d says Mr. Spencer. SBC oversees numerous programs across our region including youth and family camps, retreats, and year-round programs. We also met NYS Assemblymember, Robert Smullen, who was excited to learn how he could spread the word on cancer prevention in the community.
