LIFQHC, Inc. is a designated Federally Qualified Health Center serving Nassau County through a network of six Family Health Centers and three school-based health centers. Dr. Shaw collaborated with CPiA to develop a comprehensive training to increase HPV vaccination at practices based on evidence-based strategies and local cancer data. While research shows that the HPV vaccine can prevent 90% of HPV cancers, three out of 10 NYS adolescents are not getting vaccinated as recommended. In Nassau County, only 25% of adolescents have completed the HPV vaccine series by age 13 compared with 39% statewide, as of 2020. Dr. Shaw increased knowledge among LIFQHC, Inc. Providers on the importance of strong provider recommendations, utilizing electronic health record alerts and standing orders, and promoting vaccine assistance programs to support vaccination among uninsured patients.
