St. Mary’s Cancer Prevention in Action (CPiA) recently attended the 17th Annual Maple Ski Ridge Fall Festival in Schenectady, educating event goers of all ages, about behaviors that prevent cancer. Including the benefits of sun safety, the dangers of indoor tanning and the benefits of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. We provided flyers, rack cards, and sunscreen to all those in attendance.
This is a large annual event with a couple thousand attendees that also benefits local charitable organizations. This year Maple Ski Ridge chose the Schenectady Firefighters Cancer Foundation (SFFCF), a CPiA community partner and sun safety policy holder. CPiA was excited to be there and see our partner SFFCF set up with their gorgeous, branded tent that was part of their subawards. We were told that the other tents awarded to the SFFCF, for the individual firetrucks, are also being used as often as possible during extended emergency calls and trainings and the firefighters love having them available.
Not only did we get to speak with hundreds of people about cancer prevention education, but we were also able to support a great community partner at the same time. That is a day that cannot be beat!
