CPiA St. Mary’s recently attended the 2024 Schenectady Pride event. We were one of dozens of vendors there to help our local LGBTQIA+ community celebrate June as Pride month.
We were able to speak with at least two hundred people about cancer prevention. We shared tips on sun safety including sunscreen, sunglasses, wide brimmed hats (which more than one event goer dubbed “fabulous!”), shade and covering up. We handed out sunscreen samples and lip balm with SPF 15 protection. We educated those in attendance on the dangers of indoor tanning, which unfortunately is very popular in this community. We also shared information on the importance of the HPV vaccine as cancer prevention with many parents and young people.
This was a great day, full of fun, joy and acceptance. I was so very proud to support our LGBTQIA+ community and represent CPiA St. Mary’s at this event.
