June was PRIDE month! Cancer Prevention in Action (CPiA) of Glens Falls Hospital’s Health Promotion Center was invited to participate in the 2024 Lower Adirondack PRIDE Festival. A 3-day event this year, ended with an incredible day of celebration in Glens Falls City Park on June 2nd. CPiA was front and center, welcoming festival attendees from near and far seeking shade and sunscreen on the glorious, but incredible hot day in Hometown USA.
Lower Adirondack PRIDE is one of many new partnerships for CPiA Year 3. Adopting a sun safety policy wasn’t enough for this crew! Committee members and volunteers proudly promoted that they #TakeActionAgainstCancer by wearing their UV protective customized shirts and provided shade with their custom co-branded pop ups. Lower Adirondack PRIDE also offered free co-branded UV 400 sunglasses and SPF lip balm. To stay hydrated, they offered ice c old water to all in attendance.
CPiA visitors learned how to reduce skin and HPV-related cancer outcomes and loved that we provided them with an opportunity to take a break from the sun and heat under the Health Promotion Centers Sun Safety Station. While under the custom co-branded tent, visitors designed their own bucket hats to wear on such a high UV index day. They also enjoyed making UV reactive friendship bracelets. Of course, CPiA increased access to sunscreen by providing free sunscreen during the festival. Many returned throughout the day’s events to reapply.
CPiA of Glens Falls Hospital’s Health Promotion Center is dedicated to cancer prevention and addressing cancer disparities within the LGBTQ+ community. We are incredibly fortunate and proud partners with Lower Adirondack PRIDE.
