Lake George Central School District is CPiA of Glens Falls Hospital’s newest Sun Safety Champion School Districts and has done a tremendous job implementing action plan goals to increase awareness of sun safe behaviors and reduce UV ray exposures. Environmental changes to increase the school communities access to sunscreen and shade on the Jr./Sr. High and Elementary campuses include the installation of sunscreen dispensing systems and increasing access shade along the tennis courts, on sports fields, and in common areas on each campus using patio umbrellas, customized tents, and sports bench shelters.
With a little help from “Pete the Cat”, Max and Mia, and “Sophia the Sun Safer Surfer”, 285 elementary students can now enjoy reading and learning about sun safer behaviors in their library and can customize their own bucket hats to reduce their exposure to UV rays at field day and other scheduled end of the school year outdoor events.
On Monday, April 22nd, the Elementary School completed their last action plan tasks and started the week off with quite a show, A CPiA Sun Safety Fashion Show. This of course was a hit with the students and school staff as they reviewed sun safety tips and watched their favorite faculty members walk the cat walk showing off how they stay sun safer all year long. Lake George Central School District is a spotlight CPiA Sun Safer School District. This Queen of Lakes Community is ready to enjoy the outdoors and reduce skin cancer risk all year long.
